Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has spoken about the discussion on love jihad allegations involving his personal life. The actor denied rumours, specifying that he has made personal choices, not based on changing his religion.

Speaking of the critics of his inter-faith marriages, Aamir stated that he comes from a family where different religions are appreciated. The actor mentioned that interfaith marriages have existed in his family, and one should not think about interfaith marriages only in terms of religion.

Answering accusations that former wives Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao and his current wife Gauri Spratt converted, Aamir insisted that none of them converted. He explained that he had civil marriage so his marriages should not be associated with any religion.

Aamir also said that new wife Gauri Spratt, whom he recently married, is Christian. He shared the story of his family, underlining the necessity of tolerance. “The truth is that ours is a very inclusive family. Both my sisters are married to Hindus; my daughter is also married to a Hindu,” Aamir said. “Gauri is not even Hindu, she is Christian, and not even a practising Christian at that. Life is getting more comical as time passes,” Aamir Khan added.

The issue came to light following comments on Aamir Khan’s personal life and inter-religious marriages, sparking fresh debates on social media. Despite the issue, Aamir maintained that marriage should be viewed as a personal decision instead of being considered through the prism of religion.

For many years now, Aamir Khan has spoken in favour of peaceful co-existence among religions. In his recent remarks, Aamir again draws attention towards need for respecting people’s right to make choices while being harmonious with their surroundings.
