In an unexpected turn of events, Apple has opted to disband its Data Operations Annotations team in San Diego, comprising 121 employees. This team, responsible for advancing Apple’s artificial intelligence operations, particularly in enhancing Siri through voice service queries, has been instructed to relocate.
Many affected workers are hesitant to relocate to Austin due to concerns about eligibility for roles, given a lack of engineering backgrounds. Despite this, Apple has communicated to its employees about the opportunity to seek alternative positions, although details regarding future employment prospects remain uncertain.
The tech giant is also providing affected employees with a $7,000 relocation stipend, severance pay, and six months of health insurance.
