Eli Lilly and Company, a global pharmaceutical giant with a market capitalization exceeding $734 billion, is set to establish a new global capability centre in Hyderabad. This strategic move aims to bolster its digital strategy and service delivery, with plans to recruit over 1,000 highly skilled professionals.

The upcoming facility, named Lilly Capability Centre India (LCCI) Hyderabad, will be the company’s second such centre in the country, following the success of LCCI Bengaluru. The Hyderabad centre will initially focus on advancing capabilities in automation, artificial intelligence, software product engineering, and cloud computing. These enhancements will empower Lilly to deliver sophisticated technology solutions that address the evolving global demands of its business operations.

India continues to play a crucial role in Lilly’s global growth strategy, offering centralized and scalable solutions that drive operational excellence. LCCI Hyderabad will significantly strengthen the company’s technical expertise, enabling it to meet rising business demands while harnessing technology to improve efficiency. This expansion also reinforces Lilly’s long-term commitment to the Indian market as a hub for innovation and talent development.

Diogo Rau, Executive Vice President and Chief Information and Digital Officer at Lilly, highlighted the centre’s potential to bring together multidisciplinary engineering talent to develop groundbreaking technologies. These innovations aim to address some of the world’s most pressing health challenges. The centre is expected to become fully operational by mid-2025, with recruitment efforts for technology engineers and data scientists already underway.

Beyond Lilly’s expansion, Hyderabad has emerged as a prominent hub for global innovation centres, attracting major healthcare and medtech firms. Companies such as Cigna’s Evernorth, HCA Healthcare, Providence, Medtronic, and Olympus Corporation have recently established significant global capability centres in the city. Telangana’s thriving life sciences sector attracted investments exceeding Rs 36,000 crore in 2024 alone, with 13 new GCCs committing to operations in the state.
