Finally, Bhoot Bangla’s teaser has been released, and fans are excited to see Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan reuniting after a long gap. The duo is known for giving us some of the best comedic films in Indian cinema together over the years and are coming together once again with the upcoming horror-comedy.
This actor-director duo has developed an original form of entertainment defined by dysfunctional family relationships, excellent comic timing on stage and screen, and memorable performances by both lead actors as well as all supporting cast involved with the production. Before their new film, Bhoot Bangla, hits theatres, let’s look at five of their best collaborations that still make audiences go ROFL.
Hera Pheri (2000)
There’s no way to discuss Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan together without mentioning Hera Pheri! This film tells the story of three men who fall into all kinds of crazy situations when they try to help one another get out of debt after joining a criminal gang that ends up being run by one of their relatives. With some truly funny moments and iconic dialogues throughout the entire movie, this film has certainly become a cult classic that will be enjoyed by millions of people for years to come.
Garam Masala (2005)
Another comedy classic of the 2000s, Garam Masala features an exceptional comedic performance from Akshay Kumar. The actor plays a charming and flirtatious man with multiple girlfriends and is a master of timing and expression. The film was a huge success, thanks to its situational comedy and chaotic narrative. Akshay Kumar won the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian for this film.
Bhagam Bhag (2006)
This star-studded comedy is a joke-fest from beginning to end and stars Govinda and Paresh Rawal with Akshay Kumar. The movie follows a theatre group as they go to London and find themselves caught up in a murder. With a fast pace and outrageous humour, this film is one of the funniest films of its decade.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)
This film proved that Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar can do more than just make people laugh. The film intertwines comedy with horror. Akshay’s character is one of the most memorable characters of his career as a witty psychiatrist, Dr. Aditya Shrivastav. The film has also developed a cult following in the Bollywood film industry.
De Dana Dan (2009)
Another Priyadarshan trademark: complete chaos. This one sticks with that premise as two broke friends have a plan to kidnap a wealthy woman’s dog for ransom, but instead, the situation escalates into a wildly funny situation. This movie is full of a star-studded cast and classic slapstick humour and hence remains a fun watch for fans of madcap comedy.
The expectations for Bhoot Bangla are therefore very high, with the past collaborations of the two indicating that audiences can expect a great mix of humour, craziness, and fun when the duo is reunited on the big screen.
