In anticipation of the festive season, toy giant Mattel, known for its iconic Barbie dolls, has launched an exclusive ‘Diwali Barbie’ tailored for Indian consumers. This limited-edition doll is part of a special collaboration with renowned designer Anita Dongre, blending modern fashion with traditional Indian craftsmanship.

The Diwali Barbie showcases several Indian-inspired design elements, offering a perfect fusion of contemporary and traditional aesthetics. The doll’s outfit includes a floral Koti vest, a choli top, and a lehenga skirt, with delicate floral embellishments featuring dahlias, jasmine, and the Indian lotus, capturing the essence of Indian culture. Additionally, the doll is accessorized with sparkling earrings and gold bangles, representing the radiant lights of the Diwali festival.

Mattel has stated that this special edition Barbie is designed for children aged six and above. Each doll comes with a stand and a certificate of authenticity, making it a valuable keepsake for collectors and Barbie enthusiasts alike.

Designer Anita Dongre worked meticulously on the design, ensuring that the ensemble would resonate not only with Indian audiences but also with girls worldwide. The choli top is a modern take on the traditional “Rajasthani koti,” while the lehenga is styled like a contemporary skirt, making the outfit relatable yet culturally significant.

The Diwali Barbie is now available for purchase on Amazon, priced at Rs 1,995, and can also be found at popular U.S. retail chains Target and Walmart.

Barbie continues to be a global cultural icon, recently gaining further attention with the release of its blockbuster movie directed by Greta Gerwig. The film, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, was a massive success, grossing over $1 billion worldwide.
